Back In Time

Purpose

Linux user-data snapshots using rsync and hard links

Decision Summary

Retained in the CSI open-source backup catalogue for evaluation; not approved until lab testing and restore evidence are complete.

Use Cases

Fast rollback or point-in-time filesystem/system recovery; requires separate independent backup.

Hardware Requirements

Depends on protected data, change rate, retention, concurrency and restore targets; perform capacity sizing before deployment.

Backup Strategy

Use snapshots for rollback, plus a separate replicated/offsite backup for device or pool failure.

Recovery Strategy

Restore to an isolated alternate location first, validate integrity and permissions, then perform controlled production recovery.
